L\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 est arriv\u00e9 et avant que la saison des allergies ne s\u2019installe, nous devons nous occuper de l\u2019herbe \u00e0 poux dans le champ. Nous organisons une rencontre dans le champ samedi le 3 juillet* entre 14h – 17h pour retirer cette plante. Vous \u00eates invit\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer votre appui de l\u2019id\u00e9e de r\u00e9appropriation des espaces verts urbains. Cet effort de contr\u00f4le fait partie de l\u2019entente convenue avec l\u2019arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal pour \u00e9viter la fauche compl\u00e8te du champ. Lors de la fauche radicale en ao\u00fbt dernier, le champ a perdu bien des ressources pour les oiseaux et les insectes. Alors, apportez vos gants et d\u00e9sherbons avant l\u2019\u00e9mission du pollen de l\u2019herbe \u00e0 poux. <\/p>\n

Saviez-vous qu\u2019un insecte a une relation exclusive avec l\u2019herbe \u00e0 poux? De la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on que le papillon monarque a besoin de l\u2019ascl\u00e9piade pour nourrir ses larves, la mouche \u00e0 fruit Euaresta bella pond ses oeufs exclusivement dans les fleurs de l\u2019herbe \u00e0 poux. L\u2019insecte agit donc comme contr\u00f4le biologique: la plante produisant moins de graines. Au-del\u00e0 de ce service, faire place \u00e0 la biodiversit\u00e9 c\u2019est aussi faire place avec tol\u00e9rance \u00e0 cette petite mouche: svp laissez une plante sur dix!<\/em><\/p>\n

Summer is here and before allergy season takes full hold of us, we have to take care of the ragweed in the field. We are organizing a gathering in the field on Saturday July 3rd* from 2-5 to remove the ragweed. You are invited to join in to show your support of the idea of reappropriating urban green spaces. This weed control effort is part of the deal we have made with the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough so that they do not mow the field this season. When the city mowed the field last August, it left a desert by eliminating food sources for birds and insects. So, bring your gloves and let\u2019s weed it out before the pollen spreads. *on Saturday the tenth in case of rain<\/p>\n

Identical to the special relationship of monarch butterflies and the milkweed, the fruit fly Euaresta bella lay eggs only in the flowers of the ragweed. It acts as a natural bio-control of the weed: it will produce less seeds.
