As educators, we want to engage our students, help them to deepen their learning and have a bigger impact on their communities.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to let you and your school know about some visual art workshops with an accent on environmental art that I offer to primary and secondary students across Qu\u00e9bec as part of the <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/contenus-communs\/education\/culture-education\/the-culture-in-the-schools-program\/\">Culture in the Schools program<\/a>. <\/b>The program is financed fully by the Qu\u00e9bec Ministry of Culture and Communication, and is accessible to youth of various backgrounds. Creating our own paint and pigment is not only fun; it helps us reconnect to the materials we work with every day, while minimizing toxic exposure. We\u2019ll explore the basic elements of paint (including binders and pigments), cover aspects of history, chemistry and affordability. This workshop will highlight recipes for gesso, tempera, watercolour and gouache paints. Deepen your knowledge and experiment with recuperated surfaces upon which to paint! Understand the processes and advantages related to the creation of your own colours, while honing your improvisational skills! An information booklet with recipes and resources will be provided. Participants will embark upon a collective mural with their newfound materials. We begin with an overview of materials available for our binders and pigments. Binders include: beeswax, gum arabic, egg yolk, vegetable oils\/butters, water. Can classroom creations fit into public space to transform everyday environments? Walking tours will inspire students to think about outdoor space differently. We\u2019ll cover poetic, political and environmental art forms which think outside the box, help to reshape the environments we live in and create dialogue about the role of art and its\u2019 relationship to land and the environment. We begin with a visual presentation covering ecological art projects from around the world and then create our own projects incorporating living materials such as: i- hands-on planting for living tapestry with germinated seeds on burlap, seed bombs ii- stencils, street installations, a creation outside inspired by Land Art iii- sketching\/maquette of a project we would like to realize (public commissions).<\/p>\n<p>We will observe the signs, signals and stories around us to inspire our temporary installations. Drawing, stencils, sticker and poster art, wheat paste, performance art, site-specific installation are just some of the stimulating mediums that will be covered. How might our drawings and sculptures be transformed for everyday use? How might one commission for public art projects? Nous commen\u00e7ons par une pr\u00e9sentation visuelle sur diff\u00e9rents projets d\u2019art \u00e9cologiques dans le monde, puis cr\u00e9ons nos propres projets int\u00e9grant des mat\u00e9riaux vivants tels que :<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; plantation pratique de tapisseries vivantes avec des graines germ\u00e9es sur toile de jute;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; de bombes de semences, pochoirs, installations de rue;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; une cr\u00e9ation \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur inspir\u00e9e par le Land Art<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; croquis \/ maquette d\u2019un projet que nous souhaitons r\u00e9aliser (commandes publiques)<\/p>\n<p>Nous allons observer les signes et les histoires qui nous entourent et nous en inspirer pour nos installations temporaires : dessins, pochoirs, autocollants et affiches d\u2019art, colle de bl\u00e9, performances, installations in situ sont quelques-unes des moyens d\u2019expression stimulants qui seront abord\u00e9s. Comment nos dessins et nos sculptures pourraient-ils \u00eatre transform\u00e9s pour une utilisation quotidienne? Comment pourrait-on commander des projets d\u2019art public?
