Art Workshops

Since 2004, Emily offers art workshops independently, in and out of the institution. She works with MASC; Artists Inspire Program and Culture in the Schools Program (with the Ministry of Culture and Communications in Québec). She has worked with youngsters, teens, adults and seniors in all media, for leisure (as emotional outlet), education, and portfolio development.

Workshops are designed to accommodate specific group needs, interests, skill sets and talents. Media include: painting, drawing, mixed-media, land art and projects for public spaces (art in relation to the urban or rural environment).

MASC

Emily is an artist on the roster for the arts organization MASC. Working out of diverse cultural traditions, MASC artists offer workshops, performances, artist-in-residence programs and professional development in music, dance, drama, literary, media and visual arts. MASC programs are delivered to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board as well as all English and French school boards in Eastern Ontario and West Quebec. Programs are offered to students in Kindergarten up to Grade 12, and to youth and adults in a variety of community settings (daycares, museums, NCC, festivals and seniors venues). Ontario College of Teachers

Emily is also an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) licensed teacher, fluent in English and French and able to work in diverse environments on both sides of the river, throughout the National Capital region.

Artists Inspire Program

If you’re a school in Québec and looking for funding opportunities to bring Emily into your school, please know that every English public elementary and secondary school is eligible for $1500-$3000 grants thanks to funding from the Government of Canada. “The grade 6 students, myself and the parent volunteers were welcomed by local artist Emily Rose Michaud in a fully immersed art environment. The workshop took us through multiple activities using different spaces that spoke to all different intelligences. We spent time outside creating land art by the water, looking at topographic maps, studying the history behind ‘zines and cyanotypes, etc. Students had an appropriate amount of time to experience the creative process as well as mindful pauses to develop reflection and appreciation for the art that surrounded them. It was truly a unique multimedia experience to navigate between absorbing the art installation and putting our hands to work. Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities to work in cooperation, explore individually and collaborate while being guided and taught by someone as knowledgeable as Emily Rose about the land, history and the art that they find themselves immersed in.”

Living Tapestry Workshops

This unique workshop enables participants to learn the basics of germination while experiencing the magic of living, breathing embroidered tapestries, with roots that bind to fabric as growing thread. This is a great way to experiment on a small-scale tapestry while learning concrete growing tricks that may be translated into one’s own creative practice. Quebec Culture in the Schools Program

This is a program designed to bring artists and cultural workers into the schools to share with students their creative process through workshops. In person and under certain conditions virtual workshops are available.

Emily facilitates art and ecology workshops in public schools with the Culture in the Schools Program. Her profile with them can be viewed on page 18 of the Bottin culture. The Quebec Ministry of Culture covers the cost for each visit.

Art Courses & Camps

I have taught independently as well as at the Ottawa School of Art since 2004, and was a co-founder/director of a Summer Art & Nature themed Camp (Camp Art Nature) for youth aged 5-12 at a farm in Wakefield, Quebec for 9 years. We explored fort making, thematic art projects and ecological inquiry while being immersed in nature (field, forest and an open barn).
